Katey Sagal
A versatile, gifted actor, Katey Sagal
is a skilled singer and actress who excelled at both drama and comedy. She was
most well-known for her role in the role of Peg Bundy. She was a dazzlingly
distinctive, bold character on the Fox show Married... with Children (1987).
She was awarded two American Comedy Award nominations and three Golden Globes
during its lengthy run. As popular and identifiable as her Peg Bundy persona
was, Katey assertively moved on after the show went off the air, not just
acting in TV shows and sitcoms, but portraying characters that were polar
opposites of the outrageous role that initially brought her national attention.
She played Gemma Teller Morrow in Sons of Anarchy (2008) as the matriarch of
the Hell's Angels-like California biker family. Her performance in 2011 earned
her the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance of an actress in a Television
Series Drama. Catherine Louise Sagal was the daughter of Sara Zwilling, a
singer and Boris Sagal, a noted television and film director. At age 5, she
began performing in Los Angeles. She also trained in voice and acting at the
California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, California. She was a singing
waitress during her "salad" times. After her time with "The
Group Without a Name," she got a break when she teamed up with Gene
Simmons and KISS, the 1970s' rock group. She also worked as a backing singer
for recordings by Simmons as well as other stars, such as Bob Dylan (Olivia
Newton-John), Etta James, and Tanya Tucker. She also performed live with Bette
Midler as one of Bette's "Harlettes," in Bette’s avant-garde stage
productions.
